Winner Announced:

2025 Carabiner Travel Grant

Perth's Graduates of Architecture are engaged, thoughtful explorers.

As part of our 30th Anniversary $15,000 Travel Grant, we received many exceptional proposals, with WA's emerging Architects nominating destinations from around the world.

Thank you to everyone who submitted their application.

Honourable mentions go to shortlisted candidates Fynn Turley and Bhasan Gurung, who presented exceptional presentations.

Congratulations Lucas Allen!

Lucas provided a detailed submission describing a passion for sustainability, in the form of re-use and re-purposing of building materials. He identified firms doing things differently, finding new ways to reduce demolition and construction waste.

With the help of the Carabiner Travel Grant, his journey will take him to Melbourne, Brisbane, Copenhagen, Aarhus, Rotterdam and Brussels.

This opportunity provides not just a once in a lifetime experience, but valuable learnings from global innovators, delivering fresh insights for the industry in Perth.

We'll post updates on Lucas' journey along the way, and look forward to following his adventures. Congratulations!

”The practices and organisations I want to visit are world leaders at material use, reuse and resourceful thinking surrounding waste and the environmental impacts caused by material lifecycles..

A travel grant would allow me to explore how these organisations function environmentally, socially, and economically. This exploration would build on my own understanding of designing and constructing consciously, with the end goal that I could help to introduce and promote these processes locally - helping to minimise construction waste in Perth.”
