Adaptive Re-Use
Carabiner sees heritage as an opportunity, rather than a restriction, to preserve our history, strengthen and maintain a sense of place, and tell a story about a site’s identity while also adapting and enhancing the functionality of the heritage fabric.
Detailed Research
Our process of adapting a heritage space for new uses and users begins with detailed research. We seek to fully understand the site and structure’s original purpose, so that part of its story may be conserved and integrated into any new functions and spaces.
Modern Safety Standards
Often redeveloping and adapting a heritage space requires ensuring usability aspects such as safety are aligned with latest building codes and universal accessibility standards. Our trusted consultant network employs the latest technology to modernise mandatory requirements, while respecting and conserving the site.
The large high spaces of the upper floor created wonderful studios whilst downstairs former workshops became wardrobe production spaces; showrooms and offices became a reception foyer and administration area. A new ablutions block and main stair and lift were added to achieve fire and disability access code compliance.

Adaptive Re-use
We look forward to opportunities to preserve the past while adapting a project to suit the future needs of its users. If your community is seeking a safe pair of hands for your heritage project, contact us to discuss opportunities for adaptive re-use.
