In honour of our 30-year milestone, we are giving back to the architectural community that has been at the heart of our journey.

For Graduates who have completed an Architectural degree from an Australian University within the last 8 years, (and who are willing to travel within the next 10 months) we are offering the opportunity to apply for our $15,000AUD Travel Grant.

This grant will provide the opportunity for someone in the early stages of their architectural career to explore great architecture in a global context.

Eligibility conditions apply:

  • Be an Australian citizen or Permanent Australian Resident, residing in Western Australia.

  • Have completed a recognised post-graduate Architectural degree from an Australian university within the last 8 years.

  • Be able to travel within the next 10 months (this is non-negotiable).

  • Not be a Carabiner employee or contractor deemed to be an employee of Carabiner.

  • Submit the completed application form before the published closing date (August 30th, 2025)

Selection of the successful candidate will be based upon:

The successful candidate will be selected by Carabiner Architects at their sole discretion based on the following:

  • Demonstration that the applicant meets all eligibility requirements.

  • A demonstrated willingness to develop and nurture their architectural career.

  • A clear and compelling explanation of how the applicant expects to benefit from the opportunity.

  • A well-thought-out and considered itinerary, including the purpose of travel and proposed budget.

  • Anticipated outcomes and how these would be translated into a presentation on their return.

Carabiner Architects is not obliged to award the Travel Grant to any candidate if no suitable application is received in Carabiner Architects’ absolute discretion

IMPORTANT: Please read our Terms and Conditions:

  • 1.1. The Travel Grant is intended to benefit the recipient in the study of Architecture and Carabiner Architects will work with the candidate to assist with a successful and rewarding journey. Carabiner Architects’ intent is to resolve any issues arising in a fair and reasonable manner, however has set out these Terms and Conditions for clarity in the process and Travel Grant release.

  • 2.1. To be eligible for the Carabiner Architects $15,000 AUD Travel Grant 2025, applicants must:

    a) Be an Australian citizen or Permanent Australian Resident, residing in Western Australia.

    b) Have completed a recognised post-graduate Architectural degree from an Australian university within the last 8 years.

    c) Be able to travel within the next 10 months (this is non-negotiable).

    d) Not be a Carabiner employee or contractor deemed to be an employee of Carabiner.

    e) Submit the completed application form before the published closing date (30th August 2025).

  • 3.1 To apply for the Travel Grant, applicants must:

    a) Submit a request through https://www.carabiner.com.au/travel-grant-eoi and following verification of eligibility an Application Form will be provided.

    b) Submit the completed Application Form that will require the applicant to outline how they intend to explore architecture in a global context, including a detailed itinerary, purpose, proposed budget and how this will be presented to Carabiner on conclusion.

    c) If shortlisted, the applicant may be required to attend an interview.

  • 4.1. The successful candidate will be selected by Carabiner Architects at their sole discretion based on the following:

    a) Demonstration that the applicant meets all eligibility requirements.

    b) A demonstrated willingness to develop and nurture their architectural career.

    c) A clear and compelling explanation of how the applicant expects to benefit from the opportunity.

    d) A well-thought-out and considered itinerary, including the purpose of travel and proposed budget.

    e) Anticipated outcomes and how these would be translated into a presentation on their return.

    4.2. Carabiner Architects is not obliged to award the Travel Grant to any candidate if no suitable application is received in Carabiner Architects’ absolute discretion.

  • 5.1. Only one (1) recipient will be selected for the Carabiner Architects $15,000 AUD Travel Grant 2025.

    5.2. The total amount awarded which is capped at $15,000 will be based on the recipient's submitted itinerary and budget and is subject to confirmation by Carabiner Architects. The itinerary and budget will be used in the assessment and release of the Travel Grant and the eligibility or non-eligibility of items to be reimbursed will be at Carabiner’s discretion.

    5.3. Successful applicants must provide confirmation of their travel itinerary before departure and continue to keep Carabiner updated as their trip progresses.

  • 6.1. The application deadline for the Travel Grant is 30th August 2025.

    6.2. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application within 4 weeks of the application deadline.

  • 7.1. The Recipient must take out appropriate insurances and the Travel Grant will cover the costs of travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, cancellations, lost baggage, and any other unforeseen circumstances during their travels.

    7.2. It is the Recipient’s responsibility to ensure they have the necessary visas, permits, and any other required travel documentation for their journey.

    7.3.  The recipient must ensure that all travel and accommodation arrangements comply with the relevant laws and regulations of the countries they plan to visit.

    7.4. Carabiner Architects is not responsible for:

    -       costs or delays associated with securing visas or other travel documentation unless these have been previously agreed as part of the Travel Grant

    -       any financial loss or injury sustained during the travel period

  • 8.1. The recipient is required to monitor travel advisories and government recommendations related to their destination(s).

    8.2. If there is a change in travel advice that may impact the safety of the recipient or the feasibility of the planned trip, the recipient is to advise Carabiner Architects who will work with the recipient to resolve an alternative, provided one is available. The recipient may be required to provide a revised itinerary as part of this process.

    8.3. In the unlikely event that an alternative cannot be found then the costs up to that point will be reimbursed and any balance of the Travel Grant will be cancelled.

    8.4. Carabiner Architects is not responsible for any disruptions or cancellations to the recipient's travel due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, political unrest, pandemics, or other force majeure events. In such cases, the recipient should contact Carabiner Architects as soon as possible to discuss options.

  • 9.1. Carabiner Architects expects the recipient to act as an ambassador of the architectural profession, promoting respectful engagement with local cultures, communities, and environments.

    9.2. The recipient must conduct their travel in a manner that aligns with professional and ethical standards.

    9.3.  The recipient agrees not to engage in any illegal, unethical, or harmful activities during their travels. This includes but is not limited to activities that exploit vulnerable populations or violate local laws or customs.

  • 10.1. The recipient agrees to participate in promotional activities related to the Travel Grant, including but not limited to interviews, photographs, and social media posts. Such promotional activities undertaken by the recipient must always reference Carabiner Architects and the Travel Grant regardless of timing of the activity. These activities may be used to promote the grant program and Carabiner Architects’ commitment to the architectural community.

    10.2.  Carabiner Architects may use the recipient’s content without prior approval, though notice may be provided to the recipient as a courtesy before publishing any personal content or information.

  • 11.1.  Carabiner Architects may rescind the Travel Grant if the recipient engages in illegal or unethical behaviour, fails to meet grant conditions, or acts in a way that brings the practice into disrepute. This includes but is not limited to: criminal charges, dishonesty, unsafe conduct, failure to submit reports, or unauthorised changes to the approved itinerary.

  • 12.1  By submitting an application for the Carabiner Architects Travel Grant, applicants agree to abide by these terms and conditions, as well as any other reasonable rules or guidelines set by Carabiner Architects.

    12.2.  Carabiner Architects may collect and process personal data in accordance with applicable privacy laws. All applicants will be notified of how their data will be used and stored.

  • 13.1. Pre-Approved Budget: The recipient must submit a detailed itinerary and budget for approval by Carabiner Architects. Only eligible expenses as outlined in the approved budget will be reimbursed.

    13.2. Staged Payments: Carabiner Architects will provide payments in stages tied to specific milestones or deliverables. These stages will be resolved with the successful applicant.

    1.3. Commitment Agreement: The recipient will sign a Travel Commitment Agreement outlining:

    a) The obligation to complete the trip as outlined in the itinerary and adhere to the terms of the grant.

    b)  A clawback clause, stipulating that if the recipient fails to fulfill the conditions (e.g., cancelling without reasonable cause, deviating from the planned trip), they must repay any funds received up to that point.

    c) A commitment to submit the required final report upon their return and to return any unused funds within a specified period (e.g., 30 days).

    13.4. Unused Funds: If the recipient has any remaining funds after completing the trip, they must return the unused portion within 30 days.

  • 14.1. It is the recipient's responsibility to ensure they are physically and mentally fit for travel. Carabiner Architects strongly recommends a medical check-up prior to departure, particularly for travel to remote or high-risk areas. Any pre-existing medical conditions must be disclosed prior to travel planning.

  • 15.1. Any disputes or conflicts arising from the terms and conditions of this Travel Grant will be handled in accordance with Western Australian law. Both parties agree to resolve any disagreements through amicable negotiation. If an agreement cannot be reached, the dispute may be escalated to mediation or arbitration.

  • 16.1. Carabiner Architects reserves the right to alter or cancel the grant at any time up to the point of finalising travel arrangements without prior notice. Please note Section 12 regarding Grounds for Rescinding the Grant after travel arrangements have been confirmed and the travel has commenced.

    16.2. The Travel Grant is not transferable or redeemable for cash.

    16.3. Carabiner Architects is not responsible for any incidents, losses, or damages that may occur during the recipient’s travels.

  • 17.1. These Terms and Conditions are subject to change without notice.

    17.2. By applying, applicants agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions and all reasonable instructions issued by Carabiner Architects.
