HBF Arena Basketball and Football Facilities

With over 155 years of history between them, the Wanneroo Basketball Association and West Perth Football Club have been the cornerstone of community for their respective sports in the northern suburbs of Perth. But, with expanding member bases and ageing facilities, it was time for something new. So, we created a world-class venue to support elite and social sport, with the capability to host major sporting events.

For the basketball club, we designed a new four - court stadium to the south of the existing courts. We matched the materials, scale, details and expressive structure of the original building, to ensure it sat respectfully by the rest of HBF Arena.
And, as well as new courts, the basketball development also includes a new function and administration areas, player amenities, and additional parking.
We also developed new player amenities within the existing grandstand, as well as a brand new building with function areas, football development services and administration and member facilities for the West Perth Football Club.
The HBF Arena Basketball and Football facilities have been nominated for the public entry in this year's WA Architecture Awards.
Many hands…
The new facilities were a true team effort. We were responsible for brief finalisation, schematic design including Development Approval, and preparing a detailed performance brief for a Design and Construct delivery contract. The Contractor's design team then moved onto detailed design and construction documentation, but we were asked to stay on the project to review the detailed designs and to provide technical advice throughout the construction phase.
